This week is National Play Therapy Week.
According to the Association for Play Therapy: “Play therapy is a way of being with the child that honors their unique developmental level and looks for ways of helping in the “language” of the child – play.”
Neuroscience and research support the way play helps the brain “rework” memories or “practice” new skills. Play therapy is mainly used with young children but it can also be used with families, adults and couples! Words aren’t always the best path for healing so play provides another route for all ages.
Our Founder and Executive Director, Amy Reamer, LMFT, RPT-S, is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and was awarded the Virginia Play Therapist of the Year in 2021! Play Therapy is obviously serious business at Heart & Mind! Visit the Association for Play Therapy for more information at https://www.a4pt.org/page/WhyPlayTherapy.
