Adoption isn't a topic that comes up at the lunch table but it is ever present for children who are adopted/in foster care/kinship care. Just being with others who share a similar journey can help us feel less alone. This group will use creative expression and narrative therapy to help adoptees connect to their own thoughts and feelings about adoption in a way that respects where they are in their journey. Group will be led by an adult adoptee licensed mental health professional.
Adoptees experience a life that begins with a loss. This can impact someone in multiple ways throughout life. This group often finds a place they fit in when they haven't felt that way before. The stories are different but the feelings and experiences are often so similar it makes the world less lonely to connect with each other. This group is open to adults who have been adopted/in foster care/raised by extended family/donor conceived.
This time is a tough one. Adulting, ugh! So many decisions, discovering who you are and who you are becoming. This group is going to be a book study of "Quarter Life Crisis" by Alexandra Robbins and Abby Wilner with discussion and support by Becky Lehman a counseling graduate student and certified recreation therapist. Becky will support the group members and members will support each other discussing the challenges, doubts and life questions about work/school/relationships and whatever else the group wants to explore.

Is your child struggling with meltdowns, worries, fear or sadness? Are they refusing to cooperate, fighting with siblings or friends? Social and emotional development are individual trajectories but must occur in the context of relationships. It can not be taught in the traditional sense but can be improved through connection with others during play, watching and learning from others as well as learning ways to manage big emotions and feel empowered to handle what comes their way!
This is a concurrent group for children and parents/caregivers that will run at the same time.
