Wendelyn Nguyen (Wendy)

Resident in Counseling

Helping children, teens, and adults build emotional resilience, deepen self-understanding, and navigate life's challenges with confidence.

"Is your child, teen, or are you feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, stress, or life's challenges—and looking for a safe place to feel understood?"

A Supportive and Collaborative Approach

Wendy brings a gentle, warm, and patient presence to every session. She approaches each client with genuine curiosity and without judgment, creating a space where children, teens, and adults feel heard, respected, and supported.

She values cultural humility and trauma-informed care, recognizing that emotional well-being is shaped not only by personal experiences but also by the broader social, cultural, and environmental contexts in which people live.

Her work is informed by:

  • Person-Centered Therapy

  • Play Therapy

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Mindfulness-Based Approaches

With younger children, Wendy uses play-based therapy as a natural way for children to express themselves, process emotions, and develop new skills. With teens and adults, she integrates mindfulness, ACT, and CBT to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while building practical tools for lasting change.

She also believes that meaningful psychoeducation is an important part of therapy, helping clients understand how the brain, body, and nervous system work together to influence emotions, behavior, and relationships.

Experienced, Supervised Care

Wendy is a Resident in Counseling working toward independent licensure. As a resident, she accepts most major insurance plans and offers standard self-pay services.

She practices under the clinical supervision of Amy Reamer, LMFT, and Missy McKissick, LPC, while bringing her own knowledge, compassion, and dedication to every client she serves. Ongoing supervision and consultation ensure clients benefit from both Wendy's individualized care and the support of an experienced clinical team.

Location & Availability

Wendy offers:

  • In-person therapy for children, teens, and adults at our Lakeside office

  • Telehealth therapy for teens and adults throughout Virginia

Many children benefit from meeting in person, where play-based therapy and hands-on interventions can be incorporated into treatment. For teens and adults, telehealth provides a convenient and flexible option while maintaining meaningful therapeutic connection.
