Virginia Wright

Resident in Counseling

Virginia specializes in supporting children, teens, and young adults using play therapy, creative expression, and EMDR.

"My goal in every session is to deeply understand your story with curiosity and care—using creative expression, evidence-based practices, and family support to help you thrive."

Virginia approaches each therapy session with the desire to better understand and know her clients and their families. This desire encourages her to be curious and nonjudgmental as clients share their stories. Virginia believes deeply in the power of play and creative expressions. She encourages and allows for play and creative expression particularly with children but also with teens and young adults.

In her work with children, Virginia creates space for children to explore, process and learn in developmentally appropriate ways in individual sessions. She also understands children to be participants in their family systems and encourages the participation of caregivers and families when appropriate.

Virginia is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and she has received training in play therapy. Virginia integrates cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy into her work with clients, and she appreciates incorporating psychoeducation on our nervous systems and attachment especially in her work with caregivers. Virginia uses a Christian approach when it is desired by her clients.

As Virginia earns hours towards licensure, she is working under the supervision of Missy McKissick and Amy Reamer.
